Francis S. Collins: Twenty Years of Citation Blockbusters

The announcement on July 8, 2009, that President Obama had nominated Francis S. Collins to be the director of the National Institutes of Health was greeted by broad acclaim from the scientific community and other quarters. Although Dr. Collins may be best known for his leadership role in the Human Genome Project, his distinguished career as a physician and geneticist goes back considerably farther.

The table below lists 10 highly cited papers, published since 1989, to which Dr. Collins contributed. Prominent are the large, multiauthor reports on the human and mouse genomes, as well as earlier papers examining the genetics of cystic fibrosis, Huntington’s disease, cancer, and other disorders. For additional biographical details on Dr. Collins and an extensive list of his publications, go to ISIHighlyCited.
